Headlamps with several functions The headlamps are divided into a main and an auxiliary unit, which gives a choice of performance and features. The head- lamps give the truck a distinctive appearance, primarily due to the V-shaped position marker lights that frame the upper lamp housing. The turn indicator, dipped beam, high beam, front position lights and daytime running lights are all integrated into the upper lamp housing. The lower auxiliary unit can be specified with fog light, extra main beam and static cornering light. The extra main beam and static cornering light share position in the housing and therefore cannot be combined. If neither of these features are specified, the fog light gets a more central location in the housing. The plastic front lamp lens is resistant to stone-chip damage. The lamp housing is designed for low air resistance. The main unit The main unit has a distinct design with daytime running lights in a unique V-shape. The Volvo FH has a chromed lamp housing while the Volvo FH16 has a black lamp housing. The LED headlights (HL- LED and HL- LED3) are homologated and approved, so there is no need for adjustments or fitting of stickers to adopt the asymmetry of dipped beam where this is usually necessary. 1) Side turn indicator. 2) Daytime Running and front position light. 3) Dipped beam. 4) High beam. 5) High beam and adaptive high beam. 6) Turn indicator.

Daytime Running Light – DRL

The Daytime Running Light is combined with the front position light using LED technology. When activated, the DRL has a distinct V-shape. When the dipped beam is activated, the DRL light is dimmed to a V-shaped, normal front position light.

Depending on the market, two different options for DRL functions are available:

• Basic, nolight turned on at all – UDRL.
• DRLactivatedand all position lights* on – DRL- LED.

* Position marker lights = front position light in headlamp, side marker light,  rear-end outline marker light (tail lamp), rear position light (tail lamp) and end outline marker lamps on roof.

Static Cornering Lights.

 

When the truck is parked and the engine is switched off, trucks with DRL- LED will automatically switch from front position light to DRL mode when the engine is started up. With UDRL it will start up on the last position (DRL, D or D+ on the light control switch).

Adaptive high beam

The LED headlamp with adaptive high beam has four reflectors and twelve LEDs per headlamp. Radar and camera detect sur- rounding traffic and light. If objects are detected by the camera or radar, different LEDs are switched on and off automatically. You can drive permanently with adaptive high beam without blinding approaching traffic and vehicles ahead.**

• Optimal illumination.
• No blinding with adaptive high beam.
• Easy usage.

** If adaptive high beam is combined with additional driving lights, these lights have to be deactivated manually to avoid glaring opposing traffic, since their    range usually exceeds the range of the adaptive high beam sensors.

The auxiliary unit (not for FMX)

The auxiliary LED unit offers a choice of performance and features.

It includes the following functions:

• Fog light – FOGL-WC.
• Extra main beam – DRIVL2.
• Static Cornering Light – CL-STAT.

The auxiliary unit is offered in three basic versions:*** • Fog light, LED.

• Fog light and extra main beam, LED.
• Foglightand Static Cornering Light, LED.               *** If without auxiliary unit is selected, a plastic cover will be mounted.

Static Cornering Lights

When the truck slows down to turn a corner in the dark, the Static Cornering Lights light up the immediate area on the left or right side and help spot unprotected road users.

Approach Light

A feature called Approach Light is included on vehicles with remote controlled central locking (LOCK- REM). It is activat- ed by a separate button on the key fob. The Approach Light illuminates the area close to the truck and increases visibility around the truck at night:

• Positionlamps(in headlights and rear lights).
• Instep lamp.
• Sidemarker lamps.
• Direction indicators.
• Interior light.

 

The auxiliary unit with fog light and extra main beam or with fog light and static cornering light.

Adjustable headlamps (HL-ADJ)

The headlamp adjustment control is used to change the height of the light beam. If there is a big difference between the chas- sis inclination angle when loaded and unloaded, this optional feature (for HL- BASIC) can be operated to avoid dazzling other road users. The function is not needed when chassis height is adjusted via the air suspension system height control.
